GPIC

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) was established in the Kingdom of Bahrain in December 1979 as a joint venture between GCC member states for the manufacture of fertilizers and petrochemicals. The joint venture is equally owned by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation and Petrochemical Industries Company, Kuwait. GPIC uses natural gas (which is readily available in Bahrain) as a feedstock for the production of ammonia, urea and methanol, totalling 1.5 million tonnes each year. The ammonia and methanol plants were commissioned in 1985 whereas the granular urea plant was started up in 1998. The Company also commissioned a Carbon Dioxide Recovery unit( CDR) in 2009 which captures about 0.12 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide annually and reduces our carbon foot print.
