ALROSA is one of Russia’s largest mining companies, accounting for 95 per cent of overall domestic rough diamond output, and one of the world’s major rough diamond producers, accounting for 30 per cent of the global rough diamond production in carats. In 2015 it produced 38.3 million carats of rough diamonds, with sales of rough and polished totaling USD 3.55 billion. Its major stakeholders are the Russian federal government and the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (58 per cent). ALROSA has more than 30 subdivisions, many of which are located in the region of Western Yakutia. In 2015, it employed over 39,000 people engaged in diamond mining, sorting, valuation and sales.
