Copel - Companhia Paranaense de Energia, the largest Company of Parana State, located in the South of Brazil, was founded on October 26, 1954 with ownership control held by the State of Parana. The Company went public in April 1994 and, in 1997, it was the first company of the Brazilian Electric Sector to be listed at the New York Stock Exchange. As from June 2002, the brand is also present at the European Economic Community, listed at Latibex - the Latin American arm of the Madrid Stock Exchange. As of May 7, 2008, Copels shares were ranked at Level 1 of Corporate Governance on Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, placing the Company at the level of international benchmark in social and environmental sustainability. Copel operates a comprehensive and effective power system with its own generating capacity of power plants, transmission lines, substations, lines and grids of the distribution system and a modern and powerful optical telecommunications system that integrates the cities of the State. Copel adopted the GRI guidelines in preparing its annual report, obtaining positive results not only in market awareness and confidence, but also in adding real value to the Company.
